Tonight we will finally see Adam Cole defend his NXT Championship again. He has been ducking Velvteen Dream for months now, ever since Dream changed his focus from Roderick Strong to Adam Cole after a cage match. Having beaten Undisputed Era memebers Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish, as well as pinning Adam Cole during a tag team match, Dream will finally get his chance to end the greatest reign in NXT history. Will Adam Cole’s championship dreams be over?
Full Gear From The Opening Bell
Unexpectedly, Cole would come alone for this match leaving Roderick Strong & Bobby Fish in the back. This was his fight, and he wanted to keep it that way to prove himself as a champion.
The match started with Dream taunting Cole, continuing mind games before they would tie up in the corner, which after the referee broke them up, Cole would be slapped hard and sent to the outside. Dream would be vicious, throwing Cole into the ringsteps after dropping a big forearm to his back. Sending Cole back in the ring, the champion had time to recover, and would kick the knee of Dream before hitting him with a perfect Superkick to the jaw. He would uncover the knee, indicating he was going for his finisher “The Last Shot”, but Dream would counter with a huge spinebuster for a near fall.
Sending Cole into the corner, he would launch some heavy shots before placing him on the top rope and trying for an Avalance Dream Valley Driver. Cole would fight out, but still ended up neck first over the top rope. He would make his way back into the ring, and a rake to the eyes would leave Dream open for the Panama City Sunrise, Cole’s signature flipping piledriver. Dream had this scouted, and would catch Cole and hit the DreamDT.
Velveteen Dream Has Adam Cole On The Ropes
Cole would regain control briefly, before Dream would throw more hard punches and push Cole back into the corner. Setting up on the second rope to rain shots down, Cole would slip under the legs of Dream and kick the leg, sending him head first onto the mat. Cole would trash talk and provoke Dream, who came back with some heavy clotheslines before dropping Cole with a diving back elbow. He would set up the Dream Valley Driver, but Cole fought out only to be hit with a Superkick for the two count. Dream would head to the top rope with Purple Rainmaker in mind, but Cole would move mid-dive, hit a pump kick and a Backstabber for the two count.
A battle for control would end with an Enzuguri from Cole, who would hit the Knee Drop Brainbuster for another near fall. The frantic pace of this match left both men tired, and they would exchange strikes as they would struggle to their feet. Dream would be dumped over the top rope, only to climb the turnbuckle and come down to a superkick. Cole would fall from exhauston, and Dream would fall into another near fall.
Interference Influences The Finish
At this point, Bobby Fish & Roderick Strong would come down to help Cole, only to be met by Dexter Lumis who apparently was just waiting under the ring this entire time. Lumis would take on the two men, but the referee would be hurt in the process when Lumis accidentally threw Strong into him. Back in the ring, Cole would be prone with Dream hitting the Purple Rainmaker on him, with no one to count the pin getting a visual pinfall. Realizing the ref is down, he would wake him before wiping out Undisputed Era only to enter the ring to a superkick followed by The Last Shot, giving Adam Cole another title defense.
This continues the trend of Cole getting lucky with outside interference leading to his victory. He has proven that he can win without help, but his last two defenses came with similar situations. Should Dream get another shot at Adam Cole? Will he pick a fight with Dexter Lumis first? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
