One of the best parts of WWE as of late has been MVP. He returned to much fanfare at the Royal Rumble earlier this year, and would sign on as a backstage agent for WWE. Despite this, he has been doing so much more, with him working commentary on WWE Main Event dropping Bad Brains references, hosting the VIP lounge on RAW, wrestling people like Rey Mysterio & R-Truth, and becoming a manager. With clients like Bobby Lashley behind him, and with his eyes on names like Apollo Crews, Shane Thorne and Brendan Vink, he’s making a powerful group. However, could the 46 year old MVP have one final title run in him?
MVP Is A Two-Time WWE United States Champion
While his biggest asset was always his massive pool of charisma, MVP was a very good wrestler in his prime. His feud with Chris Benoit over the WWE United States Championship was arguably his peak in America, and he would defeat Benoit in a 2 Out Of 3 Falls Match at Judgment Day in 2007, holding the title for 343 days. He would lose it to Matt Hardy at Backlash in 2008, before regaining it for another 76 days after beating Shelton Benjamin on an episode of Smackdown in March of 2009.
His two reigns put him at 419 days, the fifth longest reigning champion in the belts 55 year history. Blackjack Mulligan is at fourth with 509 days, Greg Valentine is third with 512 days, Ric Flair is second with 773 days. Finally Lex Luger is at the absolute top, with 950 days, a number which might never be matched again. All these reigns happened when it was the WCW or NWA United States Championship, making MVP the longest reigning champion with the WWE branding.
Calling Out Andrade On Instagram
MVP has history with the current champion, and in a post on Instagram, he would put his eyes towards Andrade and the championship.
‘I met Andrade Almas when we worked in New Japan together. I was blown away by his ability. He worked under a mask as La Sombra. I told him then he would be a big star, but his future was without the mask. When he saw me in WWE, we laughed and he said “I remember what you said.”
Now, about that US Title…
Just kidding.
Maybe…’
He could simply be referring to the upcoming title match between Apollo Crews & Andrade, but this great champion could be looking for one final run in the spotlight.
