Britt Baker is not the only woman from AEW to fall to injury. This past week on AEW Dynamite, we would see Kris Statlander team with AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida to face Nyla Rose & Penelope Ford. During this match, Statlander would end up tearing her ACL, putting her out of action for the forseeable future.
When Did Kris Statlander Get Injured In The Match?
For once, we know exactly when this injury happened due to Statlander letting know on Twitter, quote retweeting the breaking news that she was hurt. “Since the news is out. I told you I’d dive on Kip again and dammit I did. But in doing so, I ended up with a high grade tear in my ACL. Yes I need surgery. Yes I’ll be out of the ring for a while. I’ll do my best to still show up on your TVs as much as I can.”
Dives are called high risk for a reason, and this is exactly the reason. Statlander took the risk, and now will miss months of her career. She was consistently one of the best women AEW had on their roster, constantly a highlight in any match she was in.
This Won’t Impact Her Career Too Heavily
While an ACL injury is major, and surgery will take her out of action, Statlander is only 25. Her entire career is still ahead of her, and she’s set for big things despite this setback. We will still likely see her become AEW Women’s Champion someday, and a return from injury is a great way to start a huge push in that direction. Everyone likes a great comeback story, and this has the potential to be exactly that. Her style might have to be changed, we might see her move away from dives going forward, but we might see her focus on being a powerhouse.
Cody said it best here. “Kris Statlander is a force! Incredibly skilled. There’s never a good time for an injury, but she won’t be down for too long.“
We here at The Overtimer wish Kris Statlander a speedy recovery from this injury, and hope to see her back and better than ever at the end of this.
