Funerals are always sad times, whether they’re in real life or on television, and this is going to be a hard one. CBS “The Bold and the Beautiful” Spoilers have our tissues and ice cream ready to go as we ready this throwback spoiler.
Originally airing on August 24, 2006, this edition of the Abbott Family theme says goodbye to the Abbott patriarch and longtime Genoa City gentleman, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas). While this episode is one of the best ones, in our opinion, it’s also one that wasn’t necessary as it came about through an interesting thought process.

Not right for the job
According to Jerry Douglas, the shows head writer at the time, Lynn Marie Latham, killed John off because she didn’t understand why a man would run a cosmetics company. What makes this worse is he’d been in the role for twenty-five years and he was beloved by fans, not to mention the fact she had to seel this idea to the powers-that-be and they bought in hook line and sinker. This was such a disservice to the character and the fans.
But at least he was able to come back a few more times as a ghost to visit and help various people. It’s something the show has done a few times, but it’s a false feeling for some. The other thing to consider, and this is something CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers has been thinking about, is how different the show would be if he hadn’t been killed? Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) could’ve still developed as his own person and the focus could’ve still remained on him with John retiring and taking more of an advisory role, like what Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is currently doing.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the episode.
Quest of the damned
With John’s family and friends in attendance to say their goodbyes, Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) and Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) are working to get Gloria Abbott (Judith Chapman) in to say her goodbyes.
While it seems like a small thing to ask since she and John loved her, there’s more than a small rift sized scar between her and Jack and the other Abbotts. It would make things right if they’d allow her to say her goodbyes, but CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers feel it may take a herculean legal effort from Michael to get her admittance.
Will they succeed or will Gloria be another casualty of the writers? We’ll find out.
What are your thoughts? Do you think John should’ve been kept around or was killing him the best move? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to check back with CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers for the latest updates, spoilers, and speculation around.
