We’re closing out another theme week, and CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers is all set with the final throwback spoiler for the Abbott Family theme.
Like with the Winters week, this helped reinforce that there are other families in Genoa City besides the Newmans. While this fact wasn’t lost on the fans that have been watching for a while, those that came in over the last few months have witnessed largely Newman-centric storylines, and this was a fun reminder that we’ll be seeing others again at some point.
In fact, maybe we’ll see a shake up to bring the Winters back and once more establish three of the four top families in Genoa City? This isn’t a spoiler or prediction by CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers, but rather a curious note since it feels like we’re up for something really big when the show comes back.

This episode isn’t all that old (it aired on December 24, 2019, making it just over five months old), and that’s a definite mark against it as many of us have been enjoying the older classics instead of ones where the script ink hasn’t fully dried yet. Still, it’s a great episode in that it helps bring Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson)’s current plight to light by showing us where he started to have enough of being controlled and began seeking out what worked best for him. It’s never easy finding our true selves when others are constantly working to keep us confined, but he found a way.
Family concerns
After wrapping his day up, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) wanted to stop by Billy’s to check on his brother and do the controlling yet loving brotherly things Jack does best. He arrives as Billy’s finishing up a work call, and he’s glad to see Billy keeping busy. As they continue talking, Billy explains that he feels freer not to figure out who he is not that he’s not part of Jabot. In other words, under Jack’s direct influence.
Jack’s not sold, and says he’d like to plan Christmas for the Abbotts.
Billy then tells him they’re going to Telluride. It’s disappointing for Jack, but he’s happy his brother is spending quality time with his family, and that he’s been concerned.
Of course, jack meant it in a supporting way because he wants to help. He just doesn’t understand his wants to help or hold onto something so much that he strangles the life out of it.
Predictably, Billy gets upset and defensive as always happens when Jack starts in with something. To be fair to Jack, Billy’s past isn’t exactly pristine, so there is some leeway and reason behind Jack’s mentality.
It’s the typical story (as we’ve seen prior to the lockdown) where Billy has struggled to find himself and had to break away from everyone wanting to “help him” be what they want him to be. It’s standard in soap operas like it is real life, and that only drives the point home harder.
Jack plows ahead, asking Billy about his therapy. Another fun trigger topic for Billy.
Billy informs him that his therapist is out of town (it’s Christmas, so no surprise there), but he’s talking to someone else.
This pleases Jack, and his mind is set at ease for the moment and the two separate.
This episode does a great job at showing Billy at a crossroads in his life where he could go either way. While CBS “The Young and the Restless” Spoilers haven’t shared the rest, we’re sure everyone will enjoy how things go. Besides, we gotta leave something for the show sometimes, right?
