Edge Has Creative Control Over His Promos In WWE

Ever since he returned to WWE at the 2020 Royal Rumble, Edge has been one of the best parts of WWE TV. He’s been locked into a feud with Randy Orton, and has met him in two matches. First at Wrestlemania they clashed in a bitter Last Man Standing match, and again at Backlash in what WWE dubbed ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’. While both these matches provided something very different and special. However, the true highlight has come in the promos leading to these matches.

They’re both masters of this part of the craft, and WWE recognizes this, thus giving Edge the control he needed to be on the top of his game.

Edge Has Creative Control In His Promos

While he can’t influence the outcome of the storyline or matches, Edge has control where it matters. He’s not being handed a script when he goes out with a microphone, as Vince McMahon trusts him. While speaking on the Busted Open podcast with Bully Ray & Dave LeGraca, he’d say the following.

“I have been given almost full carte blanche. There’s a couple things that I tried to go against, but I realize that the lines were drawn, and that wasn’t going to get changed. So that was fine, but the promos, I’m writing them. The storyline arc, I put it together.” You have to sometimes make chicken salad because tore my triceps. So, what do we do here? How do we how do we navigate this? It’s all a work in progress really, but I’ve been given so much freedom, and that has been so much fun.”

This is absolutely the right choice, as Edge has had some of the best, and most passion fuelled promos in recent memory. While you can’t give everyone this level of trust, people like Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, and others should have this same freedom. Lord knows it would do wonders for someone like Reigns upon his return, as he’s at his most popular when theres more Joe A’noai involved.

Do you think WWE should give more wrestlers the control to write their own promos? Would this improve the WWE product? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
