In Impact Wrestling, they have put a lot of focus into Michael Elgin as of late. It makes sense if you just look at his in ring ability, as he’s one of the top wrestlers in the world today. His matches are hard hitting, and pull from the hard hitting Kings Road style of Pro Wrestling NOAH. After successful runs in Ring Of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, he’d settle into Impact Wrestling, where he was set to battle for the Impact Heavyweight Championship. That title is now vacant after Tessa Blanchard would be released, and Elgin wouldn’t be far behind her.
Impact Wrestling Couldn’t Ignore His Past Much Longer
Given the current #SpeakingOut movement, it was unlikely that Elgin would remain in Impact Wrestling much longer. They like many others have been purging their roster of problematic talents, like Dave Crist, Tessa Blanchard, and now Michael Elgin. Back around 2016, sexual assault claims would come out against Elgin, after he’d brag about forcibly peeing on a girl during sex, despite her not wanting this. That shows his true character, very clearly. He told this story himself while chatting on the Kevin Steen Show.
Their stance is incredibly simple. “Impact Wrestling announced that Michael Elgin will not be appearing in any further Impact Wrestling programming.” This isn’t just a release, it’s essentially him being blacklisted from the company. He will not be seen again on their programming. Simple as that. He’s not the type of person they want to be associated with any longer, and that’s a great step for them to take.
Michael Elgin Will Leave A Hole In The Roster
Elgin was one of the top names in the company, by far. His feuds with the likes of Eddie Edwards showed just how good he is, and he would have made a very strong Impact Heavyweight Champion. But now, he’s gone from the company. This does leave a hole in the roster, but it won’t be hard to fill. They’ve recently teased some major signings and returns for Slammiversary, and if someone like EC3 is really returning to Impact Wrestling, that’s an easy name to fill this gap. Other teased names include Rusev, Luke Gallows, Eric Young & Karl Anderson, anyone of these could fill the gap left by Elgin.
Losing Elgin will just be a small road bump to Impact Wrestling at this stage. They’re great at building new stars up, and they’ll simply have to do this again.
