Social media presence has become an incredibly important piece of how people look at a wrestler. You could be lacking in the ring, but if you can please fans on Twitter, it will reflect very nicely on you. It works both ways however, as Jaxson Ryker would learn. The enforcer of The Forgotten Sons is a veteran of the United States military, with his previous ringname of ‘Gunner’ being a direct reference to that. Because of this, he is a patriot, something which didn’t sit well with fans and co-workers alike.
An Over-Reaction To What Jaxson Ryker Said
To most, this tweet will not come off as much. “Thankful for the POTUS we have! God bless America. Built of freedom. Forgotten No More” He simply praised the president, WWE Hall Of Famer and close friend to Vince McMahon, Donald Trump and slapped the catchphrase of the faction in there for good measure. In less tense times, this would have flown under the radar, especially because it was tweeted by Jaxson Ryker of all people; someone fans have a very hard time caring about. Despite this, wrestlers from within WWE and beyond all took this time to take a shot at Ryker, notably Kevin Owens & Ali.
Ali took the usual level headed approach to the situation, saying the following. “I’m thankful you posted this because I’m now aware of what you stand for. When black brothers and sisters are crying, you praise someone that refuses to acknowledge their hurt.” He more just pointed out how this statement was fairly tone-deaf given the current state of the country.
Kevin Owens on the other hand, is not known for being level headed, inside or out of the ring. He would say the following. “The freedom you speak of entitles you to speak your mind all you want. I’m not here to argue that. I just really need to tell you that I think you pushing your shitty wrestling catchphrase as all of this is happening is absolutely f*cking pathetic. Good night.” These statements are the same at the core, but the tone is entirely different.
Others outside of WWE would take shots, with Hangman Page, Joey Janela, Chris Brookes and more all making their feelings known.
This tweet will not effect Jaxson Ryker in WWE. As previously stated, it is no secret and McMahon & Trump are friends. If anything, this could only serve to make McMahon respect Ryker more. However, attitude like this will make a post-WWE career tricky to navigate, as it really did piss many off.
