Jack Gallagher will not be the only person to lose their job with WWE with the #SpeakingOut movement. While several WWE talents were named, including NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin, Joe Coffey and Ligero. Ligero was accused by several female wrestlers in the UK of harrassment and wrongdoing, and his apologizes only got him in hotter water before he would delete his Twitter.
His Apology Didn’t Work
Before deleting his Twitter account, his tweets would be backed up including the following apology tweets.
“The current story that has been released by Violet O’Hara/Claire-Michelle Oldfield is neither accurate nor true.
This is a completely false allegation and whilst I’ve done other things in my life that I deeply regret, this isn’t an accurate or truthful portrayal of events.
This is something I strongly deny and is something I’ve been in the process of speaking to a legal team about.
Regarding the other statements from people like Laura, Natalie who have spoken out about the way they were made to feel, and others that have come forward about unwanted messages, I have no excuse.
It’s inappropriate, it’s an embarrassment and it’s an absolute shameful way to act from someone in a position of trust. I sincerely apologise for my actions and any hurt I’ve caused.
I have no justification of my actions in the slightest. In these situations, I have failed people as a friend, as a fiancée and as a decent human being.”
These apologies were met on deaf ears, and was even called out by NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray.
“Perfect response. Exact right words. The same way you always knew exactly what to say in relationships so that 1-you don’t come off as the bad guy, 2-you get what you want & 3-people feel sorry for you.
I find it disgusting and manipulative that your seeking any sympathy.”
Ligero Is No Longer With WWE
When it comes to releases, this is about as harmless to WWE as it gets. Ligero was part of the NXT UK roster, and while he would be a fan favorite before these accusations; that has changed now. We might have seen him added into the Cruiserweight Divison in time, where he would have fit in nicely with his fast paced style.
He was never going to be NXT UK Champion, and his peak in NXT UK would have been in a potential tag team title run down the line. He didn’t have a steady partner, but he could have been perfect for a thrown together tag team. Putting him with someone like Dave Mastiff would have created something beautiful, but we’re beyond the need for Ligero.
This will likely not be the final release from NXT UK, but WWE is looking into the cases and finding the facts.
