Many will know him as Wade Barrett, the winner of the first season of NXT, and leader of The Nexus. Many have agreed that he should have been WWE Champion during his first run, but lately he has stayed out of the ring. He’s been acting and doing commentary for companies like the National Wrestling Alliance, where he replaced Jim Cornette. However, while he might need new gear, he’s still got his boots.
Stu Bennett Is Not Retired
While on the WrestleInc daily podcast, Bennett would speak on his long rumored retirement. “I am not retired in any sense of the word, in terms of pro wrestling. I love doing commentary, and I love working with NWA, as that’s been a goal of mine, for a long time.
He’d also say the following when asked about his in ring career’s future. “In terms of in-ring, maybe at some point; if the right place, the right time, the right offer, comes in. Then, I can see myself dusting off the boots…I might need some new trunks, as they might have gotten thrown out, but I still have the boots.”
This shows a glimmer of hope that Bennett could get back into the ring, despite not having wrestling since 2016 when he left WWE.
Brewing Issue With WWE Champion Drew McIntyre
To add fuel to this fire, we have Stu taking shots at Drew McIntyre. When an article was sent to him where he supposedly said he was proud of McIntyre for being the first British WWE Champion. He’d reply with “Actually, I’ve had a re-think and I’ve decided I’m not happy for him after all. In fact, I’m ruddy furious. It should have been me.”
McIntyre would shoot back with the following. “Don’t be playing the big man on here because you’ve got a movie to promote (I am Vengeance – Retaliation, OUT NOW!!!) I still remember you in tears of joy when I won the big one. If you don’t shut up I’ll start acting and win an Oscar before you as well”
Bennett would be able to match up physically with McIntyre, and given his colorful past and fan favorite status, it wouldn’t take much to get him back to a main event level for this match to happen.
