Impact Wrestling Recap (7/14) – Tag Team Match – The Deaners (Cousin Jake and Cody) defeated XXXL (Acey Romero & Larry D); Swinger and Chris Bey Have a Falling Out; Jordynne Grace and Deonna Purrazzo Contract Signing

Continuing with his quest from last week’s Impact Wrestling, Johnny Swinger promised Chris Bey he’d figure out how to be at ringside at Slammiversary, then headed off to talk to the officials.

Eventually, he found the referee that banned him. After saying he talked to Cancel Culture about his legal rights, Swinger cited himself being Bey’s emotional support companion and threatened a lawsuit. The official gave in and will allow him at ringside.

Victorious, Swinger heads back to tell Bey. But when he gets to Bey’s dressing room, he overhears Bey tell Impact Wrestling’s backstage interviewer Gabby Loren about how he’s using Swinger to be his errand boy.

When she left and Bey stepped out of the room, a visibly shaken Swinger told him the office wouldn’t budge and Bey is on his own.

The Deaners (Cousin Jake and Cody) vs. XXXL (Acey Romero and Larry D)

Net up for Impact Wrestling, Cousin Jake and Larry D start it off with a lockup followed by Larry D getting Jake in a side headlock. After breaking the hold, Jake is hit with a shoulderblock.

Jake went right back on the attack and powerslammed Larry D, then tagged in Cody.

Larry takes control over Cody with a forearm, then tagged in Acey Romero. Romero continued to dominate Cody, tossing him around like a rag doll. After being thrown into the corner, Cody sidestepped Romero’s charge and sent him out of the ring.

When Larry picked Cody up, Cody tagged Cousin Jake but Larry didn’t see it. Larry then hit Cody with a sit down powerbomb for the pin, but as the referee told him Cody wasn’t legal, Jake grabbed Larry from behind and rolled him over for the pin and win.

More carnage

With the match over, XXXL suddenly turned heel due to their frustration at the loss, and attacked the Deaners from behind. They made short work of Cody and tossed him aside as they apparently wanted to send a message through the powerhouse of the team, Jake.

Larry D kneeled with Jake over his knee, and Romero hit with an elbow off the second rope ala Demolition.

Message heard loud and clear, and it’ll be fun seeing where this feud goes from here as well as what it’ll mean in the tag team division.

Jordynne Grace and Deonna Purrazzo contract signing

Over the years, we’ve grown accustomed to contract signings being anything but civil, and this was no different, though not as bad as we assumed.

Over the last few weeks, Deonna Purrazzo bested Jordynne Grace each time by being one step ahead of her, ie ambushing or tricking her. This time, they were forced to sit face to face with Jimmy Jacobs mediating between the two.

It was cool seeing Impact Wrestling do this over what was essentially a breakroom table rather than the ring. Sometimes simpler is better.

Following a pretty cool recap of events, Purrazzo signed, then tried to intimidate Grace as she signed the contract. Grace then slammed Purrazzo’s face into the table, forcing Purrazzo to flee before more damager could be done.

This should be a good one.
