Matt Cardona Only Has Temporary Deal With AEW To Start
This past week’s episode of AEW saw the latest debut for the company, when Matt Cardona would make his presence known. He’d run to the ring after WARHORSE vs. Cody Rhodes, to help Rhodes against The Dark Order. Cardona is of course Zack Ryder of WWE fame, one of the many men who were released from the company in the middle of a pandemic. However, he’s not with AEW full time yet.
Matt Cardona Has A Five Appearance Deal To Start, But That Will Likely Change
While things will likely change, AEW hasn’t offered Cardona a full contract at this time. This was first reported by WrestlingInc writer Raj Giri. Cody & Cardona are old friends from their time in WWE, and alongside Miro (fka Rusev), he was one of the two men who he had his eyes on following their WWE releases earlier this year.
“Obviously, those free agents should be on any radar. They have literally drawn money, they have TV experience, they have high-profile experience, they have locker room experience. The pros heavily outweigh the cons.”
Cardona didn’t hold as high a spot in WWE as Rusev did, but proved to be a reliable hand in the ring, and is always on the cutting edge of online promotion. Many AEW fans currently feel he’s only getting a job due to his friendship with Rhodes, but he is going to have a chance to prove everyone wrong.
Cardona & Rhodes Team Up Next Week
In his first match for the company, he’ll team with Rhodes in a tag team match against John Silver & Alex Reynolds on the next episode of Dynamite. This keeps the Dark Order angle from last week intact, and will give Cardona an easy debut match to showcase himself in. It likely won’t be the last time he’s linked to Cody in his first appearances for AEW, as many expect him to get a TNT Championship match in the coming weeks.
After years of being held down in WWE, Cardona is going to get a chance to show just how good he actually is. Do you think Matt Cardona will prove fans wrong with his in ring debut next week? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
