NJPW Strong Press Conference: New Japan Cup USA, Brody King Announced
The First Ever NJPW USA Cup

New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) published a press conference on July 31st at 10 PM EST to make several announcements regarding its new weekly program, New Japan Strong which begins on August 7, 2020 on New Japan World.

The press conference was hosted by NJPW Play by Play Announcer Kevin Kelly and featured an appearance by FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay). However, the big announcement came from New Japan Pro Wrestling of America (NJoA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Takami Ohbari.

Ohbari announced the first-ever New Japan Cup USA tournament, an eight-man single-elimination competition that will feature Karl Fredericks, Kenta, Jeff Cobb, Tanga Loa, David Finlay, Chase Owens, Brody King, and Tama Tonga.

The tournament officially billed as New Japan Cup 2020 USA will see the winner challenge IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley at a yet to be determined date.
Brody King is making his return to NJPW after making his promotion debut on January 30, 2019, during the New Beginning USA Tour. His last previous appearance came during the Best of the Super Junior XXVI Tour on June 5, 2019.
The NJPW English website had the following to say regarding the New Japan Cup 2020.
On August 7, NJPW STRONG makes its hotly anticipated debut on NJPW World. Starting this new weekly venture hot will be New Japan Cup USA, an eight-man single-elimination tournament where the winner will have a future opportunity for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.
Each of the first round matches will take place during the pilot episode of NJPW Strong which will be made available on August 7, 2020. It’s likely the first episode could see several surprises to build further momentum for the new brand.
