There have been rumors for weeks that the New Day would break up, and that kinda, sorta happened on last week’s WWE Smackdown.
While they didn’t break up break up, Kofi Kingston being sidelined for up to six weeks with an injury, they are effectively one.
Big E didn’t want to go off on his own, as he continually said “we” when referring to the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championships and getting back at Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura.
Being the ultra positive person he is, Kingston gave Big E a pep talk about taking this opportunity to prove himself like Kingston had done when he won the WWE Championship.
To be fair, this isn’t a surprise as the last few weeks, Big E has seemed more energized while Kingston more reserved. We’re guessing this may have been something they may have been talked into. Just a hunch, nothing more.
And thus, Big E’s singles career is under way.
Will he face a jobber?
It’s safe to say that the typical formula would have Big E work against jobbers for a week or two to cement himself as a singles competitor, but we expect bigger and better things for him.
Our thinking is that because of his high profile and ability in the ring, having him face a jobber would be an insult.
With that in mind, there are a few potential victims, er, candidates on the roster that would be great opponents and help lift Big E in different ways.
Miz or Morrison would work. Daniel Bryan or Drew Gulak would also. Sometimes, it’s not just about winning but how good the match is.
In this case, it wouldn’t be a bad thing for Big E to lose his first match if it would be to a Daniel Bryan or another upper level guy if they can put him over.
He can then go on a winning streak, and while this scenario mirrors Matt Riddle’s path, it works and makes sense.
Fast track for a title
We feel that the next six weeks are a trial run for Big E, and depending on how he does and if Vince McMahon like him, he could vie for a championship at SummerSlam.
Of course, he could be fast tracked to facing AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship following Styles match with Gran Metalik.
This seems most likely since Styles is kinda floating out there and Big E has big stage experience, albeit as a tag team member.
This would make sense as there are few better for him to learn and adjust to singles action than with Styles.
To us, Styles of Bryan would be the best choices, but what are your thoughts? Who should Big E face first and then feud with?
