A recent rumor has surfaced of Rowan, a former WWE wrestler, is set to appear on this week’s AEW Dynamite (8/22) as Joseph Rudd.
It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Rowan in action; since his WWE release, basically, and that’s mainly due to his 90 day no compete clause.
At least, we assume that’s the reason. There were also rumors that the WWE may have secretly signed him, but we’re sure he would’ve been on television by now.
Still, was that any mor accurate that his rumor?
AEW makes sense
While a lot of fans bemoan AEW for picking up so many former WWE personnel, it’s important to note there’s a reason beyond weakening the competition.
Basically, the WWE signed up a vast majority of talent at some point, and now because of the pandemic it’s being spread around.
More than that, AEW is a second chance for many that were either buried or felt they weren’t used properly, and the latter is definitely Rowan. It seemed like the WWE didn’t know what to do with him.
Sounds oddly familiar, but it is what it is. No one hit 100% of the pitches that come their way.
The main reason we think this could be plausible is Joseph Rudd’s previous relationship with Brodie Lee.
Oh, didn’t we mention this rumor entails Rudd joining Lee and the Dark Order?
Dark Order grows stronger
Over the last month or so, the Dark Order has been wining and dining Colt Cabana, and while he’s still a coveted asset, Rudd brings a lot to the table as well.
As Brodie Lee’s former tag team partner, the two have a bond that’s been forged over their journeys, and it’ll come in handy here.
We expect Rudd to be Lee’s right hand man, his enforcer. Sure he’ll supplant pretty much everyone in the Dark Order, but given their struggles lately unless Lee is involved, is that really a bad thing?
To this end, we expect Rudd to be a “surprise” arrival that’ll help Brodie Lee defeat Cody for the TNT Championship.
Like we said, this is just a rumor, and that last bit may be a stretch, but given AEW’s erratic booking this makes sense.
Lee deserves a title, and while a case can be made that he’s not a top heel, he’s brought a highly indepth character to life as the head of the Dark Order.
Plus, seeing him and Rudd together again would be awesome.
