The Wednesday Night Wars have found their true victor, that being the NBA. Basketball is back, and TV network TNT is rolling out the red carpet right over AEW. Due to the NBA’s schedule, TNT has some shifts in their coming, which could change how they’re handling things in the coming weeks.
The Changes In The AEW Schedule
Having everything shuffled around on the build to one of their biggest PPV events in All Out will show how good AEW is on their feet. The first change is that the episode that would have happened on Wednesday, August 19th will now air that Saturday, August 22nd (remember this one). Next, the Wednesday, August 26th episode will air on Thursday, August 27th. Finally, the Wednesday, September 16th episode will air on Thursday, September 17th instead.
This means the September 2nd, and September 9th episodes remain untouched at this time, which are the two episodes surrounding All Out, letting them finish the build as normal and let the fallout from the event settle.
AEW Dynamite Will Go Head To Head With NXT Takeover XXX On August 22nd
The first time this impacts the AEW Dynamite schedule, it puts them head to head with a major show. August 22nd is the day when NXT Takeover XXX is scheduled for. So just two weeks ahead of All Out, Dynamite will have to deliver a PPV level show to compete with a huge NXT event.
AEW are more than ready to do this, just look at cards like Fyter Fest & Fight For The Fallen, which could have easily been a paid show. However, they need to do this, while keeping their huge matches ready for All Out.
This will impact how they build towards All Out, and we could see extra title defenses along the way. Something like Jon Moxley vs. Wardlow could be used to build towards a match with MJF for example. They need to bring big matches, but not their biggest possible matches.
This is going to show how adaptable AEW can be. When you’re a wrestling show on TV, you’re going to get pushed around by more mainstream sports. At least AEW isn’t getting moved for the Westminster Dog Show.
