Just when the National Wrestling Alliance looked to be dead in the water, things could be back to normal for them. Alongside the United Wrestling Network, who are known for producing Championship Wrestling From Hollywood, they will be bringing weekly PPV’s starting on September 15th. These will be aired on both FITE TV & more traditional PPV providers. Also in this deal is Thunder Inc, a media company which also owns a film studio.
While this could be just what the NWA needs to survive these bleak times, fans are currently left with many questions to ponder. This deal was announced by United Wrestling Network on Twitter, and David Marquez would confirm that this series will not be replacing NWA Powerrr.
The National Wrestling Alliance Recently Lost A Good Chunk Of Talent
While the National Wrestling Alliance still has it’s champions like NWA Champion Nick Aldis, NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa, NWA National Champion Aron Stevens, and NWA Tag Team Champions Eli Drake & James Storm, their roster is slim right now. Names like Ricky Starks and Zicky Dice left, and Eddie Kingston now has a deal with All Elite Wrestling.
They have cornerstones to build around, but to build up weekly PPV’s, you need serious talent to keep fans invested. Give the pandemic conditions that persist across the globe, it’s harder than ever to get talent booked unless they’re nearby. This is just the first problem that this venture could face, but the roster of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood might be stepping in to fill the temporary gaps. There are always people looking to get their big break in wrestling, and this might attract some young and overlooked talent who will also help fill out the roster.
Weekly PPV’s Have Failed In The Past
While Impact Wrestling is nearly impossible to kill, their initial strategy of running weekly PPV’s was not the greatest. Despite having boatloads of talented up and comers, and former members of both WCW & WWF rosters, the weekly PPV format was overall a failure, and eventually they moved to a traditional TV program.
The PPV price has not been announced at this time for these weekly shows, but fans seem to agree that anything more than the five to ten dollar range every week would be far too much. There are more details to come, including price, but this is a burning question that could decide the fate of these shows early.
They are only one cog in this machine, and this is something that has likely been in the works for months now. Do you think the NWA will be saved by these weekly PPV events, or is this new partnership a desperate move to stay alive? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
