Summer Struggle August 7th Headline
Did The Hontai Or CHAOS Team Move On?
The headline match of the August 7th Summer Struggle 2020 event from Korakuen Hall saw the third match of the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Title Tournament take place.
CHAOS members Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii, and Yoshi-Hashi defeated Hontai members Great Bash Heel (Togi Makabe/Tomoaki Honma) and Ryusuke Taguchi at the 11 minute and 53-second mark when Yoshi-Hashi submitted Honma with the Butterfly Lock to move on to face the eventual winners in the marquee match: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi, and Master Wato.
After the CHAOS team showed great form during the August 6th Summer Struggle event, it isn’t surprising they were able to advance in the tournament.
However, Great Bash Heel and Taguchi gave the CHAOS contingent a solid run for their money as each member of the team had a flurry of offense which put them in a position to possibly capture the victory and advance.
In the end, the chemistry and precision of CHAOS were too much and they were able to put away their opening round opponents. While this CHAOS team is the most on form in the tournament, they will struggle to defeat the Hontai team of Golden Ace (Tanahashi/Ibushi) and Wato in the next round.
Isolating Wato would give them the best chance at making the finals, but that will be easier said than done if Ibushi is focused and dedicated to his team.
This tournament is meaningful to Yoshi-Hashi who has never won a title during his career. After his vicious exit from the 2020 New Japan Cup Tournament, he will want to make the best of the opportunity in front of him.
A tournament victory for Goto and Ishii would help the two regular singles title contenders gain momentum for possible title challenges in the future.
