After a few sporadic appearances in AEW, it became clear that before long, Vickie Guerrero would be part of All Elite Wrestling. She did some time on commentary for AEW Dark, showed up as a cheerleader for The Inner Circle, and now has settled into a managerial role alongside former AEW Women’s Champion, Nyla Rose.
Now it’s official, and Vickie Guerrero has signed a deal with AEW.
Vickie Guerrero Was Done With WWE
Following her appearance on AEW Dark commentary, it became clear that WWE was not impressed with her doing so. Despite not having a constant role within WWE, they would stop answering her calls and not provide guests for her podcasts any longer. Most will agree this was a petty move on WWE’s part.
While AEW didn’t need to sign her after this happened, she did persist around the company, and having a veteran like her as a manager isn’t hurting. Her pairing with Nyla Rose screams potential, and her ability on the microphone fills the only gap that Rose has when it comes to wrestling.
However, a recent interview from Daily DDT, she reveals that she was done with WWE in 2014 anyways.
“No hesitation, put it that way,” Guerrero said. “I retired from WWE in 2014. My focus was not to return to them. We just had a lot of just difference of opinions and things going on. If it wasn’t going to be for AEW, I don’t think I would be anywhere else, but when AEW presented that there was some opportunity, I gave 100%, just my whole being. I said, “I’m here for you and I can’t wait to be a team player with the company.”
Excited To Join AEW
Having had a fairly long career in WWE after the death of her husband, the legendary Eddie Guerrero, Vickie has befriended many in the industry. This includes many who were wanting her to join them in AEW.
I think it was a lot of mutual friends. I have a lot of great friends that I’ve known from past years, Cody Rhodes, and Dean Malenko, gosh, just me collaborating and being at different appearances. There’s been conversation back and forth.
I think with that, we just came to the conclusion that I would love to work at AEW, which I expressed fully. I just, I fell in love with the company and the respect they have for the superstars and the way they run their company was something that attracted me. That’s where I am now. I’m really happy to be there.”
