I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for everyone watching WWE NXT, or rather very good news. The season one winner of NXT, former leader of the Nexus, and five time Intercontinental Champion is making his much awaited WWE return. It won’t be into the ring for him though, Wade Barrett going onto commentary for NXT this week.
Wade Barrett Has A One-Shot Deal For Now
As seen by Corey Graves filling in at NXT Takeover XXX, Mauro Ranallo is currently out of the commentary fold as he deals with family issues in Canada. This means they need someone to fill in, so why not bring in a man who’s been getting very good behind the desk in recent years.
Wade Barrett is only in for one night at this time, not signing a full contract at this time. Barrett was recently the main color commentator for Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance, a gig he will likely return to in time. He took over the role following the firing of Jim Cornette, who made a racist joke during an episode of NWA Powerrr, catching the company a lot of unneeded flack.
A Way To Get His Foot Back In The Door
While he’s got a great job when the NWA is running their usual shows, WWE has proven to be much more steady work. When he does his usual great job on commentary this week, we could see him offered a commentary deal with WWE, and he’d be a great fit as the voice of NXT UK.
Barrett hasn’t wrestled since 2016, but recently said he’d buy new boots for the right price, meaning a return to the ring is not out of the question. He was always a solid worker, as shown by his five reigns as Intercontinental Champion and his run as King Of The Ring. Barrett recently called out his friend and current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, so anything is possible with his foot back in the door of WWE.
Do you expect to see Barrett back for more than just one night in WWE? Is he better off sticking with the NWA and seeing where that goes? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
