At NXT Takeover XXX, Io Shirai was successful in her defense of the NXT Women’s Championship over Dakota Kai. Following the match, Raquel Gonzalez would have been an issue for the champ, but Rhea Ripley came to her aid, setting up this match. However, Shirai must remain wary, as Ripley just wants her next shot to reclaim the NXT Women’s Championship. Can Shirai trust Ripley, or will they fall to the more established unit?
Rhea Ripley Wants To Prove She’s The Strongest
Ripley would want to start with Gonzalez, but have to settle for Kai. She’d throw Kai face first into the match, showing the power advantage and throw her into the corner to tag in who she wants. Gonzalez would come in, and be headbutted by Ripley to start that clash. She’d be shoved into the corner and Shirai would tag herself in, to the dismay of her partner, the first signs of a rift in this match.
Kai would be tagged in, and quickly be sent off the apron by Shirai, only for Gonzalez to catch her as we go to the commercial break. Coming back, Kai would be hit with a double stomp in the middle of the ring by Shirai, and Ripley would be tagged in and would first go for Gonzalez before kneeing Kai in the face. Gonazles would make her way into the ring, and showcase her power against Ripley, sending the former champion to the mat.
Ripley would find herself isolated in enemy territory, and having to kick out of rollups from Kai. Shirai would be desperate for a tag, but quick tags from the established team would make this hard. Ripley would finally hit a big kick on Gonzalez and Shirai would get the tag at the same time as Kai.
Raquel Gonzalez Is A Team Player
A flapjack would drop Kai, but it’d become two on one with Gonzalez still in the ring. These odds are fine for the champion, and she’d take out both of her opponents, and end up one on one with Kai. Kai would be beaten all around the ring, and after a bridging german suplex? Gonzalez would have to make the save. She’d be the difference maker, though Kai would nearly get the assist in the win, going for the pump kick as Gonzalez hit the running powerslam.
Shirai would manage to break through to make the tag, but the referee missed it, and she’d be sent back into enemy territory. Ripley would be attacked by Mercedes Martinez, yet still make her way to the apron to save her partner. Instead, she’d get a boot to the face and be powerbombed into the mat and this one was over.
Clearly Mercedes Martinez is not done with Rhea Ripley, and Raquel Gonzalez is next in line for a title shot. Do you think Io Shirai’s reign is in danger? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
