You read the title right, this is a defense of the NWA Women’s Championship on AEW programming, making it the second major title from outside of AEW to be defended on Dynamite. The first was the AAA Mega Championship, when Kenny Omega defended against Sammy Guevara. This time, it’s NWA’s Thunder Rosa defending against AEW’s Ivelisse. Will Ivelisse bring the NWA Women’s Championship fully into AEW with a win?
Ivelisse Gets Help, Takes The Advantage Early
This would almost break down into a fight before the bell could even ring, setting the tone for this one. They’d both go for some strikes to start this one, before trading arm drags. Ivelisse would get in the face of Rosa but eat a slap right on the ear, stunning her. An overhead chop to the chest would be followed by an armdrag after Rosa ran up the ropes, and a running frankensteiner would catch Ivelisse.
Ivelisse came back with some kicks and agility of her own, catching a diving frankensteiner. A short shotgun dropkick all but split Ivelisse in half, and a running double knee strike in the corner knocked her silly. The Gory Special would be applied, but Diamante would distract Rosa for long enough for her to break out as we go to a commercial break.
Coming back from the break, Ivelisse has remained in control, but Thunder Rosa just needed an opening to get this one back in her corner. Ivelisse went for a kick but ate a dragon screw leg whip, getting her the opening she needed.
Thunder Rosa Isn’t Going To Give Her Title Up
A big running clothesline in the corner, another hard double knees, and a dropkick right to chest would allow Rosa to get some momentum back, but took a Tiger Driver shutting her down. She’d manage to get a crossface applied however, Ivelisse getting the rope break.
A death valley driver would drop Ivelisse, but she wouldn’t stay down long, hitting her signature rolling kick for a two count. It takes a lot to drop a champion, but Rosa would drop Ivelisse with a tombstone piledriver for the win. Diamante attacked from behind following the match, and Hikaru Shida would come to her aid.
This was another great match from Thunder Rosa in AEW, proving that she is the constant in this equation. Should AEW look for a deeper partnership with NWA to keep Rosa around? Will Shida & Rosa face the winners of the Tag Team Cup? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
