G1 Climax 30 Brackets via New Japan Pro Wrestling

Okada (CHAOS) v Ibushi (Hontai)

The marquee match of G1 Climax 30 – Night One sees former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion CHAOS member Kazuchika Okada face former NEVER Openweight and IWGP Intercontinental Champion Kota Ibushi.

Kota Ibushi is the reigning G1 Climax tournament champion, having defeated “Switchblade” Jay White in the finals of G1 Climax 29. Okada previously won G1 Climax 22 (2012) and G1 Climax 24 (2014).

In their rivalry, Okada leads 3-1, with their most famous match coming on Wrestle Kingdom 14 Night One, which saw Okada make a successful V5 defense of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

While both are on the outside of the IWGP Heavyweight Championship picture, they now have the opportunity to earn their way back to a challenging position.

Switchblade (Bullet Club) v Shingo (LIJ)

The headline match features Bullet Club member Jay White against Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Shingo Takagi. Their only other previous singles match saw White defeat Shingo during last years’ G1 Climax 29 tournament.

White makes his return to Japan for the first time since late February – early March and will look to earn an IWGP Heavyweight Championship match — despite being next in line before the pandemic caused a delay in action.

Shingo is looking to rebound after recently dropping the NEVER Openweight Championship to Suzuki-Gun leader, Minoru Suzuki.

Suzuki (Suzuki-Gun) v Ishii (CHAOS)

The fourth match of the contest features NEVER Openweight Champion Minoru Suzuki against Tomohiro Ishii (CHAOS) in what will be their fifth singles match against one another. Currently, the series is tied at 2-2 with Ishii winning the last two contests revolving around the RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship.

A victory over Suzuki would put Ishii back in line to challenge for the NEVER Openweight Championship, a title he has held five times during his career.

The two are expected to have a physical match, and Suzuki will likely use his catch wrestling ability to his advantage at some point during the latter stages of the contest.

Cobb (Hontai) v Taichi (Suzuki-Gun)

Jeff Cobb and Suzuki-Gun member Taichi meet in their third singles match. Both previously have a win over one another, with Cobb defeating Taichi during G1 Climax 29 last year, avenging his NEVER Openweight Championship loss two months earlier.

This is an important match for both wrestlers who are aiming to solidify their places as top singles competitors within New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) during G1 Climax 30.

Ospreay (CHAOS) v Yujiro (Bullet Club)

The first match of G1 Climax 30 and the second during the event features a first-time matchup. Current RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay faces Bullet Club member Yujiro Takahashi.

Ospreay has only begun wrestling again in recent weeks since the COVID-19 (Coronavirus 2019) pandemic slowed down the international wrestling scene, while Yujiro has engaged in a months-long program against Kazuchika Okada.

NJPW Noge Dojo Young Lions Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura meet during the events opening match.
