The third match of the G1 Climax 30 Night Two event showcased Sanada (Los Ingobernables de Japon/LIJ) against Toru Yano (CHAOS). Coming into the match Sanada had won each of their previous three single encounters.

Sanada also debuted new ring attire that matched a new hair color. Yano on the other hand came with a similar approach that has seen him spoil G1 Climax tournaments for individuals such as current NEVER Openweight Champion Minoru Suzuki and former IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Intercontinental, and IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega.

G1 Climax 30: Sanada v Toru Yano

Sanada has been on a hot streak as of late, as his path towards a match with former IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ Evil (Bullet Club) continues. Yet, Yano was unmoved and stuck to the tactics that have frustrated New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) opposition for over a decade.

While Sanada handled Yano’s mind games and low impact style well, he lost his composure briefly when both were on the outside. Sanada attempted to use the Paradise Lock on Yano to gain another count-out victory on him, yet Yuya Uemura unlocked Yano — angering Sanada.

As Sanada attempted to place Uemura in the Paradise Lock, Yano taped their ankles together — leading to Yano picking up an important two points by ring out (count out).

The manner of loss won’t likely dampen Sanada’s momentum, as Yano is going to Yano everyone at some point. However, a loss to Yano makes Sanada’s path to winning the B Block more difficult.

If Sanada is to advance to the G1 Climax 30 finals he will need Yano to gain several key upsets during block action. IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ Tetsuya Naito (LIJ), Evil, Kenta (Bullet Club), and Hiroshi Tanahashi (Hontai) are the other favorites Sanada will hope Yano could steal two points from.
