This was an interesting twist on last week’s WWE Raw.
We have to be honest, seeing Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura appearing and challenging the Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) in a champions versus champions match for this week.
Character wise, it’d make sense since Cesaro and Nakamura’s egos have skyrocketed since wining the Smackdown Tag Team Championship from the New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston).
It also makes sense since the current WWE trend is to have everyone be a double champion at some point.
After all, it’s a way to centralize the championships and make life easier for the WWE creative team as well as help their wrestlers look amazing in doing so.
Possible unification?
There’s a theory bouncing around with the fans, and we covered it as well, that this could be a way for the WWE to unify their hundred titles.
Personally, I would love for them to have singular championships and have the champions float or at least do away with the brand split, but with a draft coming in October, the latter won’t happen.
The unification idea, while many would welcome it, probably won’t fly because that’s less merchandise they can sell.
To be fair, the entire cross brand movements are an attempt to lift ratings after their last roster rest/draft didn’t work out like they expected.
Cesaro and Nakamura dual champions
As for the winners, we think that should be Cesaro and Nakamura simply because there’s a dearth of heel tag teams on WWE Raw.
With Angel Garza leaving Andrade and Zelina Vega last week and Robert Roode still out taking him and Dolph Ziggler out of the equation, there’s no one left on the heel side.
So, it’ll make sense for Cesaro and Nakamura to be on both shows because they are phenomenal talents that deserve both championships, but also because they’re simply awesome heels.
It may also be a way to test how their moving to Raw in the October draft will go over, so we’re going to pay attention to any cross overs or pairings the next few of weeks.
While the rest of the card has some good matches set up, we think this will be the match of the night and steal the show.
There’s simply too much talent between the two teams for it to be anything but fun, and there better not be any run ins or interference.
While there may not be any of that in other matches, not letting these four ply their skills would be the worst thing that could happen.
At least, in our opinion.
