At AEW Full Gear, Eddie Kingston is going to meet Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship, in an I Quit match. However, Kingston has a chance tonight to send a message to Moxley, as he faces another veteran of the ring in Matt Sydal.
A win here for Sydal could change the match, and prove that he deserves this shot a bit more than Kingston, but it will certainly get him in the conversation going forward. It should be a great little exhibition match, but I don’t think Sydal has much of a chance here.
Kingston was flanked by Butcher & The Blade, and would also call out Jon Moxley for not being here tonight, but hope he’s watching from home.
Matt Sydal Give Kingston All He Can Handle
Sydal would try to lock up with Kingston, but Kingston backed off to play mind games. A hammerlock would be grabbed, and transitioned into a headlock. He’d shove Sydal down, but he of course would just roll up to his feet, only to get cornered.
Kingston went for a chop, only for Sydal to dodge and hit a few of his own. Another lockup, and Kingston got a headlock only to be shoved off and hit two snug arm drags before Sydal went for the armbar on the mat. This wouldn’t work, but a quick pinfall attempt would get a two.
A spin kick to the face would be followed by a low dropkick in the corner. Sydal would go for the grounded Cobra Clutch, a signature move of his longtime friend Delirious, which Sydal started using during the ROH Pure Tournament. Kingston fought free with elbows to the head, before being chopped down with kicks.
He’d catch Sydal out of the sky as he went for a spin-kick, hitting a slam before choking Sydal on the ropes and in the corner. Kingston likes a slow pace, and that’s what he brought here. Just shutting down all of Sydals attempts to get started, and applying the Stretch Plum in the middle of the ring.
Eddie Kingston Uses The Bulldog Choke
Sydal would look for a kick, Kingston caught it only to have his other leg sweeped. Kingston got right back and hit some hard chops, before taking a knee to the jaw, Sydal getting a two count. Going to the top rope, Sydal would take Kingston down with a hurricanrana, before going for a top rope Meteora for a two count.
Sydal would try again for a pin with the crucifix pin, getting a two count before taking a spinning backfist and being all but knocked out. Kingston would apply the Bulldog Choke, and Sydal would tap out.
This was the hold Moxley used to make Kingston pass out, and he wasn’t letting go of Sydal. Sydal was forced to say I Quit, and that’s what Moxley will do at Full Gear. Kingston would see Sydal as Moxley in that moment, and apologize afterwards. This is a disturbed man, and Moxley needs to beat his old friend out of this monster.
