Former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, G1 Climax 22, G1 Climax 24 winner and CHAOS member Kazuchika Okada faced unit mate, five-time NEVER Openweight Champion, and two-time Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Tomohiro Ishii in the G1 Climax 30 Night 15 marquee.
Okada came into the match off a hard-fought victory over former NEVER Openweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Shingo Takagi while Ishii came off a defeat against former NEVER Openweight Champion Jeff Cobb during G1 Climax 30 Night 14.
Okada came into the match with 10 points while Ishii had 6. The two CHAOS members didn’t hold back against one another besides their close friendship.
Okada was able to keep the advantage for most of the match, but Ishii showed his incredible fighting spirit and fought his way back into the match on multiple occasions, yet he couldn’t control the prolific champion for extended periods of times.
However, Okada was able to gain the fall by referee stop at the 26 minutes and 13 seconds mark with his Money Clip submission technique. Ishii refused to submit, even after being caught in the hold multiple times throughout the match.
The victory moves Okada to 12 points while Ishii remains at 6. To finish his A Block campaign Okada faces fellow CHAOS member and current RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay on October 16th.
Ishii faces former IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Intercontinental, and IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion, Bullet Club member “Switchblade” Jay White to finish the tournament.
Okada will need both “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi and Jay White to lose on the final night of block action, along with defeating Ospreay for him to advance to the G1 Climax 30 Finals.
Ishii has the opportunity to spoil the tournament for Jay White and finish the tournament on a high note after not reaching the results he was hoping for coming in.
