G1 Climax 30: ZSJ v Goto
A Big Match For Both
G1 Climax 30 Night 8 saw former four-time Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion and Suzuki-Gun member Zack Sabre Jr face former two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, five-time former NEVER Openweight Champion, and G1 Climax 18 winner Hirooki Goto.
Goto came into the match after dropping his G1 Climax Night 6 match to IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) leader Tetsuya Naito to drop his record to 1-2 in B Block action.
Zack Sabre Jr lost his G1 Climax 30 Night 6 match to Kenta who was able to bully the former RevPro Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion a bit.
In what was a bit of a shock, the match didn’t last long with Zack Sabre Jr being able to gain the fall over Goto at the 3 minutes and 59 seconds mark with a European Clutch.
The victory brings Zack Sabre Jr’s B Block record to 2-2 and drops Goto’s to 1-3. While Goto is a threat to defeat anyone on the New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) roster at any point, his confidence may wane after losing back to back matches in somewhat frustrating fashion. He will need to bounce back to winning ways against CHAOS member Toru Yano on October 6.
Zack Sabre Jr’s victory comes before he faces LIJ member Sanada, who remains desperate for a win after beginning his G1 Climax 30 campaign 0-3. If the Suzuki-Gun member is to get on a roll, he will need to defeat Sanada as he did during Wrestle Kingdom 14 Night 2.
Goto could easily go on a run and make himself alive for the finals on the last day of bracket competition, however, he cannot suffer another defeat over the next few rounds.
Zack Sabre Jr can submit any wrestler at any point, he’s also becoming a master of various clutches that make him a threat to surprise opponents who are protecting against his deadly submission wrestling.
