G1 Climax Night 6 saw a match between former four-time Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion and Suzuki-Gun member Zack Sabre Jr and former NEVER Openweight Champion and New Japan Cup USA 2020 winner and Bullet Club member Kenta.
Kenta came into the match with a G1 Climax 30 Night 2 victory over former two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, former five-time NEVER Openweight Champion, G1 Climax 18 winner, and CHAOS member Hirooki Goto. He would lose to former two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Juice Robinson during G1 Climax Night 4.
Zack Sabre Jr was able to defeat former IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ and Bullet Club member Evil during G1 Climax 30 Night 2 and would lose to current ‘Double Champion’ Tetsuya Naito during G1 Climax 30 Night 4.
The match highlighted the contrast in styles as Kenta used his high impact offense to wear down the slight frame of Zack Sabre Jr, while the Suzuki-Gun member used his lethal Catch Wrestling background to give Kenta problems throughout the match.
Both wrestlers were in need of a victory to put themselves in prime positions to compete for a place atop of the G1 Climax 30 B Block. However, it was Kenta who ended up grabbing the victory.
Kenta would gain the fall at the 15 minutes and 46 seconds mark with the Go 2 Sleep technique to give himself flexibility as block competition turns towards its most important stretch.
While the loss puts Zack Sabre Jr in a difficult position, he will have numerous opportunities to make up the points as G1 Climax 30 continues. However, he will need to begin making up ground over his next several matches.
With momentum behind Kenta, he will be an interesting wrestling to watch as tournament action continues. While he’s looking forward to challenging IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley in his V3 defense during his second reign with the championship, the prestige of the G1 Climax isn’t something he will overlook.
