Most will have forgotten that James Storm once spent a cup of coffee in NXT in October of 2015. During a lull in his Impact Wrestling contract, he would show up for NXT tapings, though he wouldn’t stick around very long. He’d return to Impact Wrestling until leaving them for the revived National Wrestling Alliance.
He is currently NWA Tag Team Champion with Eli Drake, so Storm was doing very well for himself in the NWA. However his contact had expired, and he was set to leave earlier this year. Talks were happening for him to finally make an impact in WWE, something else dashed by COVID-19.
Storm & Drake Likely Would Have Dropped The NWA Tag Team Championships To Crockett Cup Winners
One of the many events that got shut down by the outbreak of COVID-19 was the 2020 Crockett Cup. The legendary tag team tournament was coming back once again, and the intent was to bring in some of the best tag teams the industry had to offer. With this tournament likely would have come a shot at Drake & Storm, which would have taken the gold off them, allowing Storm to do as he pleased.
James Storm Was Going To Be Brought Onto Monday Night RAW
During an interview with Pro Wrestling Sheet, Storm would reveal he was in talks with WWE since Royal Rumble weekend.
“I got home and I saw I got an email from Canyon Ceman saying, ‘Hey, we’re interested. Paul Heyman wants me to reach out and bring you to Raw. “I was like, ‘Wait … I think Bobby is going to Raw. Hmmm. This could be interesting.’ Ya know?”
Ceymen is WWE’s Senior Director of Talent Development, responsible for bringing names to the company, a role previously held by the likes of Jim Ross. From the sounds of it, we would have seen a Beer Money reunion between Bobby Roode & James Storm, something which would have quickly elevated the RAW Tag Team Division.
However, Paul Heyman no longer has a job on Monday Night RAW’s creative team, and that might have been Storms only way in. Do you think James Storm will pop up in WWE before long regardless? Has he dodged a bullet given the lack of respect for tag team wrestling in WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
