Over the past few months, Matt Sydal has been popping up just about everywhere. He showed up in AEW for the Casino Battle Royal, as well as matches with Micheal Nakazawa, Sonny Kiss & Shawn Spears. Sydal was also in the Pure Championship Tournament for Ring Of Honor, defeating Delirious in the first round before falling to Jonathan Gresham in the quarter finals. He’s kept himself busy, but he hasn’t laid down roots. Sydal very well might be the hottest free agent in wrestling right now.
Matt Sydal Is A Free Agent
During an interview with Chris Van Vliet earlier this week, Sydal would discuss his current contract situation and give clarification as to where he’s at.
“I don’t have anything booked with Ring of Honor right now. We filmed 8 weeks of TV so I actually had a match with Ring Of Honor on Monday. I had a late night AEW Dynamite debut the day after a Ring of Honor match and then just this past week when I wrestled Sonny Kiss on AEW Dark, the night before I’m wrestling Jonathan Gresham in the Ring of Honor Pure Title Tournament…during the pandemic I had zero work. It was very challenging. I was just holding on by a thin thread but I was just dedicated and I really believed we would come out of this.”
Both AEW & Ring Of Honor would be crazy to not try and lock Sydal down. As time goes on, he only gets better in the ring, becoming more well rounded. Him being chosen as the wildcard for the Casino Battle Royal made many believe he signed with AEW, but he likely just got a similar deal to that of Matt Cardona, a few appearances and they’ll see how it goes.
Could We See Evan Bourne Make His Return At Royal Rumble?
We’re nearing the road to what might be one of the most bizzare Royal Rumble of all time, and that means any free agent has to be expected. Sydal was a former champion in WWE, during his time as Evan Bourne, and he even went back to that name for a show in Evolve in one of their final shows.
It was shown with MVP that even if you just come in for a single match, you might become a major player once again. Where Sydal has only gotten better as time has went on, a return to WWE might be a good move for him, even if he went to NXT and had some absolute classics with the likes of Finn Balor.
