When the field for the second Mae Young Classic came out, one name stuck out above all else. This was the legendary Meiko Satomura, one of the greatest female wrestlers of all time. She’d go on to have a great tournament, had a Match of The Year contender with Mercedes Martinez, but failed to make the finals.
Now, she’s making her way back to WWE, in a place that has been her second home, the UK. Satomura is set to join NXT UK, in two different roles. She’ll be part of the roster, and working as a trainer for the women of NXT UK, with the news being broken by Tokyo Sports.
Meiko Satomura Is Going To Raise The Skill Level All Around In NXT UK
While the NXT UK women’s division is pretty great, bringing someone like Satomura to both train them and be involved on screen? The skill level is going to rise, and people like Amale & Xia Brookside are especially going to benefit from having her backstage, with them just needing someone to guide them and make them more complete packages.
On screen, this will give whoever is NXT UK Women’s Champion an instant and very legitimate challenger. Kay Lee Ray has clashed with Meiko Satomura in 2018 for Pro-Wrestling: EVE, as part of EVER Wrestle Queendom. Satomura would lose to KLR, something the champion would surely mention if she’s still champion when she arrives.
What Will This Mean For Sendai Girls?
With Satomura signing on with WWE, it means she likely won’t have time for the promotion she founded. Sendai Girls was formed in 2006 by Satomua and Jinsei Shinzaki (best known to WWE fans as Hakushi), and has remained a top joshi promotion since then.
Satomura likely isn’t going to let a promotion that she’s put over a decade of work into just die, and will have some plans in store for a new owner to take over the day by day operations. They will lose one of their top stars, but she’s prepared Chihiro Hashimoto well to take her place with ease.
