Just when it looked like indie wrestling icon Mercedes Martinez was set to join Monday Night RAW. She was going to be part of the new faction, Retribution, under the codename ‘Retaliation’. Mercedes appeared alongside Mia Yim, Dominic Dijakovic, Shane Thorne and Dio Maddin, but is now set to remain in NXT.
Mustafa Ali Sent Out A Warning To The RAW Roster, Without Mention Of Retaliation
This past week on Monday Night RAW, it became clear that Mustafa Ali was the one calling the shots with Retribution. Sick and tired of being beaten down and looked over, he’s taking the light back, with Retribution as his muscle. This finally gives Ali something to sink his teeth into, and he’s been using Twitter to send messages out. Included in this was him sending out a tweet saying “Dear Heroes, Go hide.” alongside fanart, which he sourced to the artist. Retribution is anti-WWE, but is going to be nice to their fans. This fanart didn’t include Mercedes Martinez’s character, nor do any of his other tweets about the group.
Mercedes Martinez Still Has Loads Of Potential In NXT
As shown by her fantastic cage match with Rhea Ripley, Mercedes Martinez still has tons to offer to the stacked women’s division in NXT. She barely scratched the surface, and hasn’t even challenged for the NXT Women’s Championship, currently held by Io Shirai. Martinez is one of the best wrestlers in the world today, and being in NXT will ensure she gets to have longer matches, and be able to showcase her full skillset.
Beyond a rematch with Rhea Ripley & a shot at Shirai, matches with Shotzi Blackheart, Ember Moon, Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Toni Storm and more are all still on the table, ready to be unleashed. She still has a lot left in the tank, and as a veteran, she can also help raise up the next generation of talented ladies in wrestling. NXT is the place for her to be, and kudos to WWE for recognizing this.
