Ilja Dragonauv is the number one contender for the NXT UK Championship, held by WALTER who just passed 554 days as champion. WALTER is creeping up on the record-settling 685 days of Pete Dunne, though Dragonauv looks to become the man to take him down.
Last week, he got into a scrap with WALTER & Alexander Wolfe, after coming to the aid of Pete Dunne. Dunne was the referee for the Noam Dar & Alexander Wolfe match in the Heritage Cup, and afterwards he’d attack Wolfe to seemingly send a message to WALTER. This led to a big brawl, with battle lines being drawn.
Ilja Dragonauv Wants Pete Dunne To Team With Him
Following the match with Dani Luna & Xia Brookside, we’d find Dragunov backstage looking for someone. This was assistant to General Manager Johnny Saint, Sid Scalla. Scalla, who was conveniently talking to Pete Dunne about something.
“I want to fight the whole world, I want a real fight, so all I’ll ask of you is to give me Wolfe & give me WALTER next week.” is what Dragunov had to say here, and while Scalla understood this, but simply put, Dragunov would need a partner to survive Imperium. Dragunov would simply point at Dunne, Dunne would shrug his shoulders, and we would get a match set for next week!
Imperium vs. Dunne & Dragonauv Set For Next Week
It doesn’t take much for this to be a huge match, considering it includes the two longest reigning NXT UK champions of all time, the fired up challenger, and Alexander Wolfe is there too!
Imperium would seemingly have the edge going into this, Wolfe & WALTER aren’t the main tag team of the group, but with Aichner & Bartel in NXT chasing the NXT Tag Team Championships, they need to defend the good name of Imperium. They’re dominant wrestlers, and if they get someone alone and isolated? It’s over for Dunne & Dragonauv.
However, Dunne has previously proven to have the ability to pull tag team chemistry out of nowhere. Alongside Matt Riddle & Roderick Strong in the past, he’s made it to the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic twice, and even won alongside Riddle. He’s great at flowing with just about anyone, but ring rust is a factor, Dunne hasn’t wrestled since March.
