Santos Escobar is the reigning and defending NXT Cruiserweight Champion, he’s defended the championship twice against Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott, including recently at NXT Takeover 31. But let’s not forget how he got that championship, and it’s role. He’s the interim champion, having won a round robin tournament earlier this year. The reason that tournament happened is that Jordan Devlin was stuck in the UK, unable to defend. He’s been quiet in NXT UK, but rest assured, he’s still here, and still sporting the original championship.
NXT Forgot About Jordan Devlin
Jordan Devlin has given 18 years of his life to prove he’s one of the best wrestlers in the world. At Worlds Collide, he became NXT Cruiserweight Champion, ending the reign of Angel Garza before a single defense was made. This was 18 years being paid off in one match, one huge moment.
Devlin finally was hitting his stride, and the rug was pulled out from underneath him. He hit his stride, and then was stuck in the UK, away from NXT which kept on firing through the COVID-19 pandemic, and has not been able to wrestle in over six months.
He’s been sitting home, and he saw that tournament to name a glorified number one contender. But as the weeks went past, the Interim Champion was just called the Champion. Did NXT forget about Devlin? The Irish Ace is back, and he’s going to make sure no one forgets about him again.
Devlin vs. Escobar Could Main Event An NXT Takeover Event
All this business has one end game, and that’s what could be a huge unification match. We have two top dogs in the Cruiserweight division, and if WWE keeps building them up before they’re able to clash? It’s going to be huge. Fans have been asking for a 205 Live PPV, and this would be the perfect main event to do such an event.
Jordan Devlin is back, and he’s likely going to be defending that NXT Cruiserweight Championship against the likes of A-Kid, Flash Morgan Webster and more. He’s the REAL Cruiserweight Champion, and he won’t let it go easily. Will he hold onto it long enough to unify it with Escobars championship?
