Jake Atlas might be the next man to get a shot at the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Santos Escobar. They recently met in a six man tag team match, and while Legado Del Fantasma won? Atlas dropped Escobar outside with a Rainbow DDT and called his shot at the champion.
Tonight is not a title match, but a win for Atlas tonight will almost certainly take him to his first title shot in WWE. Escobar was sporting some face paint inspired by Day of The Dead, and trunks inspired by Rey Mysterio, a Halloween Havoc legend. They were basically his trunks from the 1997 match with Eddie Guerrero, one of the best matches in WCW history.
Santos Escobar Came Ready To Tear Atlas Down
Escoabr got things started early with a leg lariat, getting Atlas into the corner. He’d take easy control early, running into Atlas with double knees in the corner, before wrenching and kicking the arm. The experience gap in this one is massive, but Atlas would fight back after being told to quit.
He’d unload strikes on the champion, and hit a back body drop and a flapjack. The German Suplex would be hit, and a big forearm took Escobar down for a two count. The rainbow DDT would hit flush, but Legado Del Fantastma would get their leader’s leg onto the rope. This saved the match for Escobar, and piss Atlas off. When you’re outnumbered, sometimes it’s hard to keep a clear head.
While the referee berated them, Atlas set up a dive over onto them. Escobar distracted the referee, and Mendoza hit a headbutt with the loaded lucha mask. One facebuster from Escobar in the ring, and it was done. Atlas had a bit of shine, but you’re not gonna take out someone like Escobar that easily.
