Tonight, we’ll close out this year’s WWE Draft on WWE Raw, and shortly afterwards fans, pundits, and WWE personnel will wonder if they did the right thing.
Going on previous years, we give them a month to implement rules for wrestlers to go back and forth to help with ratings that have pretty steadily dropped each week.
The superstar pool is larger tonight than on WWE Smackdown, and we expect there to be plenty of news that’ll be recapped over the weekend of “free agent signings” following Smackdown’s draft.
So, what does that mean for tonight and who’s going where?
Simple. We haven’t a clue, but we’ll happily speculate about who will go where in round one like we did last week, where we nailed four out of five picks. Kinda surprised at that to be honest, but it’s still cool.
Round one
This will probably be altered depending who was signed as a free agent and what has been deemed needed or important for the shows.
A trade or two could’ve happened or will happen to make it interesting.
First up for Raw is Matt Riddle
Yep, we’re going with the future superstar with this one since WWE Raw drafted the New Day (Big E and Xavier Woods) on Friday after they won the Smackdown tag championship, meaning they filled their championship hole.
Smackdown will select the Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins)
This will give Smackdown their tag team champions and keep Ford and Bianca Belair on the same brand. The WWE has made it a point to keep couples together, so this was spoilers on Smackdown.
Raw will then go with the Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss)
This is a potential stretch wince they’re not officially the Wyatt family, but we think this will happen to replace Seth Rollins heading to Smackdown and to put them and Kevin Owens on the same show.
Smackdown will nab Randy Orton
This is purely because he’s gone through everyone in Raw, and since Edge is injured he can come back to either brand (draft loophole).
On a curious note, if Orton beats Drew McIntyre at HIAC, he’ll be returning the WWE Championship to Smackdown where it was before the Fiend defeated Seth Rollins last year.
Which, to us, means he’ll lose at HIAC since there’s virtually no way Roman Reigns loses the Universal Championship to a Raw wrestler or is traded to Raw as champion.
Gotta love the spoilers. This is one of the reasons the drafts are boring and should be eliminated, but that’s a discussion for another time.
Raw will close out the first round by drafting Braun Strowman
Strowman’s time on Smackdown is basically done, in our opinion, and we expect his match against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship this Friday to be his farewell match.
This feels off since the match was announced last week, but we think it’s a given he’ll lose what should (and better be) a hard fought match before making the official move.
The reason for this is he found a home on Raw Underground, and he’ll help lift that show once it returns when the COVID flareup passes. Until then, he can give some new blood to McIntyre’s reign.
This was probably the hardest pick for us, because we also think Sheamus could be drafted here to also give McIntyre some new blood to Drew McIntyre’s reign.
Sheamus has been buried in the midcard since returning, and he’s be perfect to face McIntyre.
But so would Strowman.
That’s it for our predraft coverage, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it works out on tonight’s WWE Raw.
