It feels like ages ago now, but at one point, Riho was the ace of the AEW Women’s Division. In the first episode of AEW Dynamite, she would defeat Nyla Rose to become the first ever AEW Women’s Champion. She would go on to become the most popular female talent in the company throughout her 133 day reign, before losing to Nyla Rose just before AEW Revolution.
After this loss, we didn’t get to see what was next for Riho in AEW, as she would get locked down in Japan after COVID-19 struck. There, Riho got right back to work in promotions like Stardom, DDT, and Gatoh Move. Now it seems, that is where she might be staying.
Is Riho Done With AEW For Now?
A recent post to Riho’s Twitter account might be bad news for AEW fans. While worldwide travel started to re-open, with people travelling back and forth from the United States to Japan for New Japan Pro Wrestling, fans were curious if Riho could make it back to AEW. This doesn’t seem to be the case, as she would post a picture of herself wearing a new Stardom ring jacket with her name on it, a sign that she might have just signed a full time deal with Stardom.
Riho started wrestling for Stardom in 2019, ending the year as their High Speed Champion, which she won in her debut. She’d be pulling double duty between both AEW & Stardom, often taking the AEW Women’s Championship to the ring during her matches in Japan. Now, with that being the easiest place for her to work, it would make perfect sense for her to sign a deal with them full time.
She Could Be Set For Big Success In Stardom
This might result in Riho skyrocketing up the card. Riho currently sits around the bottom of Stardom cards, but with her high skill level and now perhaps a full time contract, there is no reason we might not see her rise up and challenge Mayu Iwatini for the World of Stardom Championship, or Giulia for the Wonder of Stardom Championship.
At only 23 years old, Riho still has a lot left in the tank. She will return to AEW in time, but for now, they might not be getting her back. Do you see Riho returning to AEW in 2021? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
