After weeks of putting on one match after another for All Elite Wrestling, it was only a matter of time before this happened. Matt Sydal is officially part of the AEW roster, a huge get for the growing promotion given his veteran status with time spent in WWE, Ring Of Honor, Impact Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling and more. He’s only gotten better with age, and his best days could be ahead.
Matt Sydal Had A Rough Start In AEW
Matt Sydal made his debut at All Out 2020 in the Casino Battle Royale, where he was the Wildcard. He made an instant impact by slipping off the top rope and landing on his face when going for his signature Shooting Star Press. However, he bounced back quickly, and lasted to the final four.
Following this rocky debut, Sydal would go on a four match winning streak starting with Shawn Spears on AEW Dynamite, then picking up wins over Micheal Nakazawa, Sonny Kiss, Shawn Dean, and Lee Johnson on AEW Dark. Another Dynamite match would follow, Sydal having a strong showing against Eddie Kingston. His latest performance saw him take Brian Cage to his limits on the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, a match that might have been his best yet in AEW.
A Future TNT Champion?
While it’s hard to imagine Matt Sydal reaching the lofty heights of the AEW Championship, we could see him become a quick contender for the TNT Championship. A match between Darby Allin & Matt Syal would be a fast paced classic which could go either way, and could result in the biggest singles title win of the storied career of Sydal.
If nothing else, having another man with 20+ years experience in the locker room is never a bad thing for a company like AEW. Sydal has forgotten more things about wrestling than some rookies on the roster have learned, and he could play a vital role in shaping the future of the company. This is a great get for AEW, and the fans will get some strong benefits from it as well.
