The November 19, 2020 World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) event took place in front of 662 fans (Reduced due to COVID-19). The Korkauen Hall audience in Tokyo, Japan was as lively as New Japan Pro Wrestling’s (NJPW) COVID-19 guidelines allowed them to be.
The marquee series match of the event saw the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and Suzuki-Gun members Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr/Taichi) take on Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) team of Sanada/”The Dragon” Shingo Takagi.
On November 16th, Dangerous Tekkers [2-0] defeated HenarAce (Hiroshi Tanahashi/Toa Henare), while Sanada/Shingo [1-1] defeated the CHAOS team of former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii/Toru Yano.
The contest between the two teams was highly competitive, with neither backing down from the physicality, with Zack Sabre Jr also being able to find moments to work in his Catch Wrestling ability. However, it is likely the match affected both of the WTL 2020 Finals favorites during their next campaign matches due to the beating all four members took.
Shingo would get the fall at the 20 minutes and 36 seconds mark with his Last of the Dragon technique to take the LIJ team to 2-1 [4 points]. The loss moves the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champions to 2-1 [4 points], in what could be considered an upset.
Dangerous Tekkers went on to face former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and Bullet Club members, Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) [GOD], on November 22nd. Sanada/Shingo went on to face Bullet Club members Bad Luck Fale/”Crown Jewel” Chase Owens on the same night.
As projected, both Dangerous Tekkers and Sanada/Shingo are near the top of the WTL 2020 table during the early portions of the competition. The loss by Dangerous Tekkers against their LIJ opponents could end up keeping them out of the WTL 2020 Finals.
