The co Best of the Super Juniors (BOSJ 27) and World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) tournaments got underway on November 15, 2020. The event at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium drew a crowd of 2,558 (reduced crowd due to Coronavirus, 2019), and witnessed the largest card since New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) returned from the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) delay.
The first match of the event saw former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions “Stone Pitbull” Tomohiro Ishii/Toru Yano of CHAOS team up against the Bullet Club team of “Rogue General” Bad Luck Fale/”Crown Jewel” Chase Owens.
Before WTL 2020, reports came out of Fale losing nearly 60 pounds while training individuals at the NJPW New Zealand Dojo. Throughout the match, Fale moved better than he had in several years, while he and Owens attempted to deal with the combination of Strong Style brawling from Ishii and the mind games from Yano.
However, Ishii and Yano were able to overcome the Bullet Club tandem with Yano using Owens to help pin Fale at the 5 minutes and 35 seconds mark. The former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions beginning their campaign with two points gives them room to possibly make a darkhorse run.
Ishii/Yano face Sanada/”The Dragon” Shingo Takagi on November 16th, while Fale/Owens face fellow Bullet Club members former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) [GOD] on the same day.
Neither team are the favorites during their next bracket contests, but they could capture an upset and muddy the top of the WTL 2020 standings. The tension within Bullet Club won’t likely come into play during the GOD and Fale/Owens match, as the two sides have been firmly allied with one another for a long period.
On the other hand, one can never know what’s going on with Bullet Club behind the scenes.
