New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) continued the World Tag League 2020 series (WTL 2020) on November 22, 2020, at the Saku City General Gymnasium in Nagano, Japan. The COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) reduced crowd of 838 made for a lively crowd in the well-lit venue.
The headline series match of the event saw former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and WTL 2019 trophy winners FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay) take on the Empire team of Jeff Cobb/Great-O-Khan. FinJuice came into the match after a victory against HenarAce (Hiroshi Tanahashi/Toa Henare) on November 19th, while Cobb/O-Khan defeated the Bullet Club team of Bad Luck Fale/Chase Owens on the same night.
The swing match was an important measuring stick for Cobb/O-Khan as FinJuice has established itself as one of the best tag teams in the world since their WTL 2019 victory. The competitive match saw the Empire team show they belong in the conversation as one of the best teams in NJPW, despite only teaming together for the first time several weeks ago.
FinJuice showed why they’ve developed into a top team with their ability to fight back during difficult situations and find ways to stay in the match even when they were forced on their back foot.
The Empire team would gain the fall at the 15 minutes and 15 seconds mark after Cobb used his Tour of the Islands technique against David Finlay. The victory moved Cobb/O-Khan to (3-1) [6 points] while FinJuice dropped to (2-2) [4 points].
Cobb/O-Khan would go on to face Suzuki-Gun members and reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr/Taichi) on November 24th, while FinJuice went on to face the Bullet Club team of Bad Luck Fale/Chase Owens on the same night.
Empire now has a great opportunity to make a push for a WTL 2020 Finals appearance while the reigning tournament winners will have to fight to make the finals.
