The co Best of the Super Juniors (BOSJ 27) and World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) tournaments got underway on November 15, 2020. The event at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium drew a crowd of 2,558 (reduced crowd due to Coronavirus, 2019), and witnessed the largest card since New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) returned from the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) delay.
The headline match of the event and fifth WTL 2020 match of the card saw former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, two-thirds of three NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions, and Bullet Club member Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) [GOD] face off against former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and WTL 2019 trophy winners FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay).
FinJuice and GOD have become rivals since the WTL 2019 tournament, facing one another three times with GOD holding the 2-1 advantage. This was also the first match for GOD with the main NJPW branch since COVID-19 disrupted NJPW operations earlier in 2020.
As expected, the match was highly competitive, with neither wanting to start their WTL 2020 campaign on the wrong path. The intensity showcased called back on the team’s previous war of words during press conferences and post-match interviews.
Neither team could keep the other from executing their game plan, making for a fast-paced match that showcased why the teams are two of the best in the world. FinJuice would finally break through, gaining the fall at the 16 minutes and 42 seconds mark.
Juice Robinson would gain the pinfall over Tama Tonga after he and Finlay executed the Doomsday Device technique on Tama. The victory set up FinJuice to go into their second tournament match on November 16th against another Bullet Club duo Evil/Yujiro.
The loss for GOD set them up to face fellow Bullet Club duo Bad Luck Fale/Chase Owen on the same night.
