One-half of the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions (w/Yoshinbou Kanemaru) and Suzuki-Gun member; El Desperado comes into Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) on the outside looking in.
Reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori, CHAOS member “Sniper of the Skies” Robbie Eagles, CHAOS member Sho, and former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi are the favorites to win BOSJ 27, meaning El Desperado will have to be on his best form to make it to the BOSJ Finals.
Desperado is likely the best brawler among the junior heavyweights with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), giving him an advantage over the competition if he can turn his matches into brawls. Desperado can also rely on amateur wrestling techniques if the situation calls for it. The challenges he presents will make him a difficult opponent throughout the BOSJ 27 campaign.
Highlighted matches for him during the tournament see him face Hiromu Takahashi (November 18th), Sho (November 25th), Taiji Ishimori (December 2nd), and Robbie Eagles (December 5th).
El Desperado was the V3 challenger during “The Dragon” Shingo Takagi’s first reign with the NEVER Openweight Championship, nearly defeating Shingo for the title on several occasions during the match. He also competed against and was able to outsmart former two-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Satoshi Kojima leading up to his challenge for the KOPW (presumably King of Pro Wrestling) title during Summer Struggle in Jingu.
Those experiences could help Desperado during his BOSJ 27 campaign. If he can pick up several additional victories because of it, he may find himself in the BOSJ 27 Finals.
