The Road to Power Struggle continues at the legendary Korakuen Hall in Tokyo later this morning in the west, as New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) builds towards the Power Struggle feature event on November 7, 2020. One-third of the normal amount of seats will be available for the live audience due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) pandemic.
November 1st Road To Power Struggle Card
The marquee match features Suzuki-Gun members and reigning two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru making the V1 defense of their current reign against Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) members Hiromu Takahashi and Bushi.
Bushi formerly held the title with fellow LIJ member Shingo Takagi. Hiromu is a former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion; he has yet to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.
The previous reign of Desperado and Kanemaru saw four successful defenses and lasted 304 days between March 6, 2018 to January 4, 2019.
The headline match features another LIJ tandem as IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ Tetsuya Naito and Sanada face Bullet Club members Evil and Yujiro Takahashi.
Evil challenges Naito at Power Struggle on November 7th for the ‘Double Championship’ after defeating the champion during G1 Climax 30. Naito previously defeated Evil to regain the ‘Double Championship’ during Summer Struggle in Jingu.
Sanada has been on quite a form since dropping the G1 Climax 30 Finals match to “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi in October.
The fourth match features the Golden Ace (Hiroshi Tanahashi/Kota Ibushi) tag team and Tomoaki Honma face the Bullet Club team of “Switchblade” Jay White, Kenta, and Chase Owens.
Ibushi defends his right to challenge for the ‘Double Championship’ at Wrestle Kingdom 15 against Jay White at Power Struggle. Switchblade defeated the G1 Climax 30 winner during the tournament. White also defeated Ibushi during their previous singles match during Wrestle Kingdom 14 Night 2.
Takahashi challenges for Kenta’s right to make the V3 challenge of IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley’s second reign with the title at Power Struggle. Kenta won the right by winning New Japan Cup USA 2020.
Takahashi earned the right after defeating Kenta during G1 Climax 30 and challenging the outspoken Bullet Club member for the match.
The third match sees the newly formed Empire faction of reigning Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay and Great-O-Khan face “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada and NJPW Los Angeles (LA) Dojo Young Lion Gabriel Kidd.
Okada and O-Khan face one another at Power Struggle, and O-Khan has racked up momentum throughout the Road to Power Struggle as his biggest singles match to date approaches.
Okada wants revenge against O-Khan for costing him his G1 Climax 30 match against Ospreay and playing a part in the Okada/Ospreay friendship ending.
The second match sees the CHAOS trio of two-thirds of the reigning NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi team with reigning KOPW (presumably King of Pro Wrestling) titleholder Toru Yano against the Suzuki-Gun trio of IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion Dangerous Tekkers (Zack Sabre Jr/Taichi) and junior heavyweight Douki.
Zack Sabre Jr challenges Yano for the KOPW title at Power Struggle, after defeating Yano during G1 Climax 30.
The opening match feature NJPW Noge Dojo Young Lions Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura competing in a singles match.
