This past week on WWE TV, we saw something that could be beautiful if done right. After Otis beat Dolph Ziggler in under two minutes, he’d meet with Chad Gable, who would take Otis under his wing as his first student of the Alpha Academy. This is pretty similar at a glance to the partnership we saw from Drew Gulak & Daniel Bryan a few months back, but with a longer connection of friendship at play.
Chad Gable & Otis Could Be Bringing Back American Alpha
At its core, American Alpha was a team of two top level amateur wrestlers taking their skills to the professional wrestling world. Chad Gable & Jason Jordan were perfect partners, and their styles meshed perfectly. Gable brought speed, Jordan brought power. Sadly, Jordan is no longer able to get into the ring, but who has more power than Otis?
The man beat Ziggler in minutes by staying focused. When he ignores comedy, Otis is a dangerous man. He’s one of the strongest men in WWE, he just needs someone to keep his eyes on the prize. Tucker was not that man, he fed into the comedy of Otis, but Gable will keep him on point.
Anything Is Better Than Shorty G
While just sticking Chad Gable into another tag team, and rehashing the Daniel Bryan & Drew Gulak storyline from earlier this year is a bit lazy, anything is better than Gable being named Shorty G. He’s one of the best workers in the company, and when given the chance can get a genuine reaction from fans, just see any of his work in NXT or his amazing run in the 2019 King of The Ring tournament.
Likewise with Otis, he was getting great reactions from fans earlier this year, and has proven on a few occasions that he can really work in the ring. This partnership could help to bring out the best in both men, which might be exactly what they need after this year. Both men could have had excellent years, but WWE failed them.
However, the tag team division on Smackdown is non-existent at the moment, and that could make for an easy path to championship glory in due time. Do you see Gable & Otis working as a tag team? Will this flop in the end like their recent gimmicks? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
