Survivor Series is gradually getting closer and closer, but the WWE are constantly trying to find ways for the weekly episodes to remain prominent before the huge PPV. SmackDown revealed last week that there will be a women’s title match between Bayley and Sasha Banks for this coming Friday, while Randy Orton is also fighting off challenges from The Fiend and Drew McIntyre ahead of taking on Roman Reigns at Survivor Series.
It’s unlikely that any of these huge matches will be changed, but it does beg the question whether Asuka will be defending her championship again before her scheduled showdown with Sasha Banks in less than a month.
WWE News: Asuka To Defend The Championship
It would make logical sense for Asuka to defend her championship before Survivor Series, because otherwise she will just be doing nothing on Raw for the next three weeks. It would seem a strange turn of events not to see the Empress for weeks before one of the biggest female matches of the year.
However, if Asuka does defend her championship, then it will beg the question who she will be coming up against. The opponent will be one from a short list of superstars that will not have any aspirations of winning the title in the long term, and the rivalry will likely just consist of one match. Asuka was kept off the card at Hell in a Cell, which means that there isn’t a rivalry that needs one more match to be blown off.
WWE News: Who Could Challenge Asuka?
It does beg the question who the correct superstar could be to take on Asuka. Coming up against somebody like Alexa Bliss would make no sense, as she is one of the hottest in the company at the minute, and a programme between her and Asuka should be a more long-term rivalry. Bliss and Asuka would be able to tell an excellent story, which means that the match between those two superstars should be delayed until the middle of November.
However, that does leave a short number of superstars that are credible enough to push Asuka to her limit. Peyton Royce is a superstar that the WWE have big plans for, which could make her a realistic challenger. However, after Royce, there aren’t many other superstars that could step up to the challenge.
