One of the biggest events on the WWE calendar is coming up, as Survivor Series takes place. However, one of the biggest drawing points for the event has always been that it has pitted Raw and SmackDown superstars against each other in the battle for brand supremacy. However, has the traditional match lost its spark, and how could the WWE ensure that the event remains as important as it was before?
WWE News: Traditional Match Lost Its Spark
It’s fair to say that there aren’t many fans in the WWE Universe that will be counting down the days to see Raw and SmackDown go head to head. There are a number of other exciting matches on the card, but the traditional match now feels dated, and it could be argued that there is no need for it.
It’s almost like the creative team aren’t even trying to think of anything fresh for the event, as they have instead stuck with the same method of having team members fight each other instead of aligning in the fight against the opposing brand. There are a number of reasons why the traditional match doesn’t work anymore, and that does lead to the question whether it should be dropped moving forward. There is no doubt that the event will remain one of the biggest with or without the traditional tag team match.
WWE News: Could It Be Saved?
Of course, there will be some fans that believe that traditional match should stay as part of the show, but they will also likely agree that the match needs to be shaken up to remain prominent. The WWE seemed to have found the right way to ensure engagement last year, as NXT were introduced on the main stage. This was an excellent way to give some of the yellow brands stars a platform, and it led to some intriguing match ups during the matches.
It isn’t clear why NXT aren’t involved this year, but it could be down to the effect of the coronavirus. However, re-introducing NXT to be involved every year is a fresh way to ensure that Survivor Series is fresh. Also, the WWE Draft is far too close to Survivor Series for fans to believe that certain stars despise their former brand enough to go to war against them. The traditional draft date after WrestleMania seems a much better date for the draft, as it is the perfect time to press the reset button.
