WWE Raw Results loved how Drew McIntyre came out in a kilt and with the sword of his ancestors. Looks like Sheamus’ gift will come in handy.
WWE Championship – Randy Orton (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
The match started with a quick lock up that neither manaed to gain the upper hand before they exchanged side headlocks.
McIntyre hit with a shoulder bloc off the ropes, and Orton hit with a kick before McIntyre hit with a series of rights and a Glasgow Kiss.
The two exchanged blows in the middle of the ring before McIntyre hit another Glasgow Kiss and followed it with a spinebuster and a bridge for a near pin.
Orton rolled out of the ring and grabbed his title and attempted to leave the arena.
McIntyre chased him down and hit with a clothesline on the ramp and bounced Orton off the barricade before tossing Orton into the ring.
McIntyre went for a Claymore, but Orton ducked and rolled out of the ring again and to the ramp where he dropped to his knees.
Orton started to head up the ramp when Pearce came out and told him there will be no count outs or disqualifications, only pinfalls and submissions.
Back from the commercial break, they’re back in the ring and exchanging rights.
Orton hit a kick to the midsection and threw McIntyre into he corner, but McIntyre came out and hit him with a clothesline.
Orton reversed an Irish whip into a back breaker and rolled out of the ring to pull a chair out from under the ring.
He hit McIntyre in the midsection and then the back. Orton crouched next to McIntyre to taunt him, then slammed the chair into McIntyre’s ribs and then pressed the chair into McIntyre’s previously broke jaw.
Orton measured him for another chair shot to the back, then went for a handful of pin attempts that McIntyre kicked out of.
McIntyre rolled out of the ring and Orton followed, and Orton hit a back suplex on the barricade and hit McIntyre in the face with the steel stairs.
Orton slid McIntyre into the ring for a near pinfall.
Another chairshot and Orton Stomps were followed by a knee drop for another near pinfall.
Orton then threw McIntyre out of the ring, but McIntyre blocked Orton’s attempt to slam his head into the announce table, but Orton got him with a thumb in the eyes.
Orton hit an uppercut and dropped McIntyre onto the announce table.
Orton climbed on top of him and hammered away on McIntyre.
Orton hit another back suplex onto the announce table.
McIntyre blocked his third attempt and fought out of the hold then hammered Orton before suplexing Orton onto the announce table twice.
Somehow, the table has withstood the pounding it’s taking.
McIntyre tried a Claymore, but Orton sidestepped him and McIntyre bounced over the table.
Picture in picture
While we suffered through a picture in picture commercial break, Orton dug under the ring for a table.
Orton took his time to set the table up so we wouldn’t miss anything, but it was set up in time for the commercial to end.
McIntyre bounced Orton’s head off he ring steps, then threw him into the ring. Orton kicked the ropes into McIntyre’s nether regions for a near pinfall, and then locked in a reverse chin lock.
McIntyre fought out of the hold and hit a couple of chops before throwing Orton off the ropes and hitting a series of belly to belly suplexes.
McIntyre hit a neckbreaker and kicked up. Orton countered a Future Shock DDT, so McIntyre threw him into the corner and charged in.
Orton flipped McIntyre over the top rope and onto the apron, and McIntyre climbed to the top rope.
Orton caught him with a right and climbed to the top rope, too.
They exchanged blows on the top rope and Orton his a superplex and went for a pin attempt that McIntyre kicked out of.
McIntyre countered an RKO into a backslide for a near pin, then he hit Orton with a Future Shock DDT for a near pinfall.
McIntyre picked Orton up, but Orton slipped off and onto the ring apron. But McIntyre hit him with a series of rights that sent Orton to the floor through the table.
McIntyre threw Orton into the ring for a near pinfall.
Orton countered a Claymore attempt with a powerslam to buy himself some time.
Both slipped out of the ring, and McIntyre was kind enough to place himself on the announce table to set Orton up to hit a draping DDT.
Orton hit another draping DDT in the ring.
McIntyre countered and RKO and hit a Claymore for the win.
This was the best match of the night by far. They did a great job in keeping it up in the air despite all the telegraphing they’d been doing since Smackdown started on Friday.
This was a better than expected show overall, with this and the Raw tag team match really putting it over.
