Love it or hate it, it would seem that celebrity and legends boxing is here to stay. Mike Tyson laced up his gloves for the first time in 15 years this past weekend as he drew against Roy Jones Jr. Some loved the chance to see Iron Mike back in the ring again, while others questioned whether it was just an excuse to stay relevant.
However, there looks set to be another showdown between two huge stars next year as it has been revealed that Tyson’s greatest adversary Evander Holyfield will be stepping back inside the ropes to take on Glenn McCrory. There could be a subsequent bout too, with the winner of that fight possibly taking on Tyson.
Boxing News: Tyson vs Holyfield III
A potential third fight between Tyson and Holyfield will certainly be one that would capture the imagination of viewers around the world. The two previous fights that they have been involved in made headlines around the world. In the first fight between the pair, Holyfield shocked the world to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.
That success also ensured that he was the first to achieve that defeat since Muhammed Ali. However, the victory wasn’t one that many saw coming, as it was given the award for Upset of the Year. The second of the fights in 1997 was the more famous of the two, as Tyson was disqualified for biting off part of Holyfield’s ear. Holyfield retired from the sport aged 48 in 2011 after winning 44 of his 57 professional fights, with his last fight seeing him beat Brian Nielsen in the tenth round by TKO.
Boxing News: McCrory Believes The Fight Is Close
McCrory was the fighter that announced that the fight was 100% going to happen, and it will be a huge night for the British fighter. McCrory is a popular name in the world of boxing in the United Kingdom, as he has covered all of the biggest fights for Sky since 1989.
He won the IBF cruiserweight championship during his professional career after he beat Patrick Makathini by unanimous decision. However, he would lose the title in March of 1990 after losing to Terry Armstrong. The biggest fight of his career came in 1991 as he came up against Lennox Lewis, but he was knocked out in the second round. His last professional fight was in July 1993, but he was beaten by Alfred Cole.
